I’ve always been impressed by people who take the time to discover new artists and bands. I’m not talking about the pretentious hipster pricks who want to be the first in so that they can be the first to hate it once it becomes mainstream. I’m talking about the people who genuinely love music and want to share it with their friends and loved ones. These are the people who made mix-tapes (and CDs) when that was still a thing. I realize that I’ll never be one of those people. I do love music, but I’ll never make it a priority to search out those undiscovered gems. That said, I do want to work harder to find new music to enjoy. By new I mean new to me. For example, I’ve never really taken the time to listen to Motorhead, but I think that now is a good time to change that. Given that I don’t have the time to go out and scour through the ether to find a bunch of new musical artists to listen to, I will mostly be relying on my social network to provide their recommendations. Hopefully I’ll find a song or two that I can appreciate. Maybe I’ll hate all of it, but maybe, just maybe, I’ll find a band that I can fall in love with.
We Cool? (2/28/2017) - Full disclosure right up front, this week’s musical addition is geared more towards fans of garage rock, folk punk or power pop music. If you don’t consider yourself a fan I’d still recommend that you check out this artist’s lyrics, because he certainly has a way with words. The artist in question is Jeff Rosenstock. […]
Scare away the dark (2/21/2017) - This happy little Leprechaun is Michael David Rosenberg. Now you might be saying to yourself, but I thought Leprechauns were Irish not Jewish. Well, if you’re assuming he is Jewish because his last name is Rosenberg then you need a little lesson on Germanic-language family names. Fortunately, I have access to Wikipedia, and I’m willing […]
Into the Woods (2/13/2017) - So I started my journey of musical discovery this weekend with Donovan Woods, an artist recommended by my friend/brother-in-law Matt. Matt is many things, including a good friend and mediocre brother-in-law*, but most importantly (for my current needs) he is a musical aficionado. I can always count on being introduced to something new when I […]
