It isn’t always easy to tell whether or not I’m being serious, so I’ll say explicitly that I take this post very seriously. I’ve decided that I will commit my community service efforts toward the Saskatoon Sexual Assault and Information Center. Earlier this week I applied for a position as a volunteer Crisis Line Support Worker, and after a pretty thorough interview today I’ve been accepted into the next training cycle starting in April.
On more occasions than I care to remember I’ve seen firsthand the devastating consequences that sexual assault wreaks on the lives of both survivors and their loved ones. My hope, with this volunteer position, is to bring some measure, no matter how small, of peace, security, or hope to the survivors I have the opportunity to work with. I recognize that it is only a small thing, but it is a small thing that I can do.
